Founded in 2018, Marc Nolan has been serving its customers with accessible and high-quality footwear. They describe themselves as “...a shoe brand, a social club, and a way of life that celebrates charm, humor, and unexpected flair”. Taking the roots of American prep with a contemporary twist, they welcome those who wear their shoes to mix and match and create something that is unique to themselves. They don’t bother with trends but instead create pieces that feel familiar to the consumer but encourage them to be adventurous.
When redesigning Marc Nolan’s logo, I took inspiration from beach social clubs. The motif of the lighthouse typically acts as a symbol of guidance, hope, and safety. In this design, the lighthouse brings an inviting feeling to the Marc Nolan brand. In addition, the ornate symbol plays into Marc Nolan’s attribute of being playful and unique and complements the lighthouse’s bold and structured tone. The typeface, Kurale Regular, while still structured, has the right curves that also complement the ornate symbol and the flag on the lighthouse. Overall, this new logo takes Marc Nolan’s old logo but includes symbols and motifs that can be standalone assets for any packaging or pattern they choose to incorporate them in.
